Description:

BP wads are better than ever. Our high-quality BP line of wads are updated and molded in the USA by our good friends at Claybuster.

After careful consideration of its applications and capabilities, the BP1220 has been dubbed "The Monte Carlo" by our friend and esteemed outdoor writer Randy Lawrence. The Monte Carlo pigeon ring was the elite of the elite of the elite shotgun race in the Old World.  In our additional images is an aerial photo showing the live pigeon ring on the sea wall at the old Hotel de Paris and Casino (the hotel opened in 1864, the casino the next year).  The live birds were kept below the ring.  The ring at the Casino was in continuous use until 1960, when it was converted to a Helice ring. The ring was eventually removed in 1972.

The Grand Prix du Casino of 1895 was $76,000, which would equate to about $2.7 million today…and that didn’t count side bets and Calcuttas. In short, it was a very big deal in the shooting world. Shooters relied on only the finest high-performance shotshells that they could get their hands on. These loads were invariably high-velocity 1-1/4 ounce loads with nickel-plated lead. If the birds landed outside the ring, then they were considered a "lost bird." Therefore, birds had to fall within the boundaries of the ring for shooters to score a kill and for other interested onlookers to collect on their bets.

Monte Carlo's rich history of live bird shooting is gone, but our ballistic lab is intrigued by the long-lived performance of the BP1220. We continue to test new loads with it for superb dove/pigeon and light upland field loads in lead and bismuth shot configurations.

Features:

  • Honeycomb crush section.
  • Easy-loading and adjustable load heights.
  • Highly consistent pressures and velocities.
  • Knit petals eliminate nesting

Curmudgeon's Loading Tips:

TYPE: (taper = 1-1/8 oz., straight wall = 1-1/8 and 1-1/4 oz.)
12-gauge lead target & small game wad. Trap, sporting clays and game loads in 1-1/8 ounce in all hulls with this versatile mid to long-range wad. Also, many 1-1/4 ounce loads for light field.

We apply this wad to many lead and bismuth shot utility loads. We have found that it yields softer recoil with intermediate burn-rate powders. Excellent consistency with these loads. Shotcup depth of .795" with four quick-opening petals. The gas seal is deep-set .730" diameter & .160" deep. *Industry tolerances apply.
